The unwritten expectation…. Exchanging value for value…
The biggest weakness most of us are susceptible to is expecting something in return when we do something for someone…. And probably there is no one who has not suffered the pain of not receiving ones hoped for return at the time when it was expected….
We brand this lack of gratitude, selfishness, insensitivity, not having the heart to give back, inability to appreciate the favor shown, etc, etc….
There is only one way to avoid this situation…. make everything a written contract! Let me phrase this a different way… ‘Treat everything as a business transaction’; I give you this and in exchange you give me that!!!
Sounds ridiculous… isn’t it!!! Most things in life are not business transactions…
We are human beings with feelings… with emotions!!! And the human psyche and emotional fabric always cause us to expect a value for value…
But in reality, ‘expecting a value for value’ is a ‘Business Transaction’ and if it were so, then what’s being given is no longer a ‘human value’… It is a commodity being bartered in expectation of something else….
There should be no expectation if it were truly a human value that is being given…. If there is an expectation, sign a contract… Don’t sulk later!!!
And if you are truly human… honor that unwritten expectation… do exchange that value for value….
