Are you working on the right things?
There were once a few tree cutters cutting trees down in a certain forest when one of them decided to climb atop a tree to check on the overall progress. As he looked around to inspect, he suddenly stopped and exclaimed, “Hey guys! The progress is great, but we are in the wrong forest”!
Often times the focus on doing things right is so great that people do not take the time to ask themselves if it is even necessary to work on what they are working on.
A majority of the time that teams spend is on cutting down the wrong forests… on doing the wrong things!
It pays to ask yourself this question during planning as well as multiple times during execution… “Is what I am doing even necessary”?
You will be proud of the tasks that you end up eliminating from your list. They never needed to be there!
