The Professional Code….
There is always a code of conduct that is accepted and expected…. And the rules of the game must be understood and followed!
Just like every game has different rules, every profession has different rules!
What makes an exceptional double agent is very different from what makes an exceptional cop; as much as both are about protecting the law!
While it may be difficult for an illiterate to understand the difference between a banker and a broker in a credit bureau, it should not be terribly difficult for a person with some knowledge and education to understand the difference between a nephrologist and a neurologist or the difference between a data scientist and a statistician….
Funnily enough, most professionals themselves do not always tend to understand the professional code binding their rights and responsibilities….
Some of the biggest frustrations that most professionals cause for themselves, circle around this inability to understand what they are required to do… what they are not required to do, but may be nice to do… and what does not belong in their specific profession/ job function (and I am deliberately using the words ‘Profession’ and ‘Job function’ together here)….
Problem typically comes in when you indulge in things that you are not supposed to do or when you do not do what you are required to do very well!
A soccer player that is sent out of the field with a red card knows he broke the rules for he knows them! A cricket player that loses his wicket to a reckless shot realizes that he deserved it, for he knows the rules of his game….
Therefore, realize, that if you are bitter about receiving a red card in your profession, or are being sent back to the pavilion, you are ignoring the rules of your game! Your professional code has come in question!
Know your professional code… follow the rules… play to win!
