Paying for Pretentiousness
I always hated reading legal documents. Of late, I find myself reading them all the time. Contracts, agreements and such for my business: with clients, employees, investors, partners, etc.; not to mention the tens of thousands of dollars that have to be spent each month. It is some of the most boring time I spend in my day. I have gotten fairly good at reading them. I know what to look for, the questions to ask, the jargon!!! But that does not make me a lawyer! I still have to hire an attorney. I still have to pay him the big dollars to do it. I still must trust him. I still must read through what he has written. I must ask the questions. And me doing what I must, does not reduce my attorney’s value.
Same with accounting. I can draw pro formas, balance sheets, P&L statements, budgets, tax forms, etc. I hate doing it. But I must do what I must. And I still need an accountant. I cannot avoid that expense. I cannot not hire a CPA.
The same has to be said of Medicine.
The same of Software Engineering.
Pretend like you know more than the professional, and you will pay for your pretentiousness.
