True love….
I had lunch with a friend recently when he ordered fish. He ate it with great relish and when asked, he said that he loves fish.
He loves fish so much that he had no problem picking it out of its habitat, killing it, cutting it, frying it and making it a part of his being.
Most of our love is like this… We love someone because we get something from them that satisfies us. Our love is such that we have little concern for what we subject them to….
I love him for me! I need him! I cannot survive without him!
You see; the focus of your love is “you”! You are mistaking your attachment, your desire and your need for love! Such love is ‘corrupt’ and will invariably bring pain and tears.
True love is joy!
Give a less fortunate person something he would never have had… you are removing a part of you and giving it away! The feeling that you derive in your being then, is pure… it is true happiness!
You almost never feel bad for willingly giving away something to some body. You need have no relationship with that person as we define relationships. All you need is the willingness and the need to help. And that feeling is love… true love!
The resultant feeling of such love is always positive. There is no attachment, no desire, no self-centered emotion associated with such an act. It will bring you a smile now… it will bring you a smile after many years!
The reason: The focus of your emotion is ‘him’… not ‘you’! You are doing it for him… you are thinking about him… and when he smiles, you smile!
