The salesman spirit….
You sure have heard and been advised to bear a sportsman spirit… And it is a Great spirit to cultivate!
But let me tell you this…. Cultivate the Salesman Spirit… And you can be sure to lead one successful life!!!
Ask a sales person how many times he succeeds Vs fails…. In general, his rate of success is almost depressingly low….
Empirically, 3 out of 100 calls turn into sales…. This means that he has to face a failure 97% of the time!
That’s a big number…. And each time, he has to shake it off like it does not matter… keep his chin up… hold on to his guts… not lose his confidence… stay happy and start the same process all over again….
He has no clue whether he will make it each next time… no idea how much time he has to spend… no idea if the buyer is serious or is just playing with him…. He just has to hope and believe that the person he is soliciting is going to buy his product….
Invariably, the product he sells is not something he would have built himself… yet he has to believe in it… own up to it….
And when his prospect does not return his call, or when he screams at him, or puts him off repeatedly… he only has to keep smiling… for one day he might buy the product….
He cannot afford to lose his cool… he cannot afford to lose his faith… he cannot afford to lose his confidence… he cannot afford to lose his patience…. He only has the option of smiling and waiting and trying….
And when things go further adverse… he MUST do more… for end of the day it is a numbers game….
Whether he is successful 3% of the time or 5% or 2%…. The only secret to his success is, how many attempts he has made….
Such is life….
Life will present you with fewer successes than failures…. You will see more rejection than acceptance…. more turn-downs than cheers…. more disappointments than accolades….
The only way to maximize success is to take that massive action which the ‘salesman’ takes!!!
