The most sustainable motivation…
The most and probably the only permanent motivation to doing or not doing something is… if it is for oneself….
And a good leader is one that identifies this as the one common trait in all human beings and is able to channelize this motivation towards the collective whole…
Interestingly, the word that best encapsulates the definition “something done for oneself or for one’s own benefit” is…. “Selfishness”!
And as I say that, consider this… Selfishness is not necessarily a bad quality!!! In fact, selfishness is the strongest glue that keeps people together…. Parents are selfish, for they love their kids so much that it would tear them apart to see their child in pain… selfishness is why you want to see your loved ones happy always… a dedicated employee is selfish, for it would frustrate him to see his organization being compromised… a committed leader is selfish, for he wants every single member of the team succeed that the goal once achieved, fulfills the dream that the entire team worked for…
It appears to me like selflessness is in fact selfishness to give the ones you really care for, all you have…. for not doing that, is more painful than the effort involved in bringing it all together!!!
There is however, one caveat… The ‘Selfishness’ that I am talking about MUST be bounded in the strong confines of a value system… where values are exchanged for values… and to this, there can be no exception!!!
There does not breathe one man that is bereft this positive emotion!!!
Tap into this flavor of selfishness… And you will have an entire planet motivated… for as long as you are selfish for their happiness…
