Selective humility is opportunism
Humility is a lofty trait and is taught in most households as an essential, character trait. It is one of those traits that does not come with any special provisions…. I have not, for example, been taught to be humble with a few and contemptuous with others….
You sure have seen people that are clearly incongruous in their behaviors.
If you are humble and respectful on occasion (or may be with a few) and disdainful, borderline imperious on others, it points out a gap in your character… an inconsistency that really points to a fundamental problem rooted in cowardice, insecurity and a deliberate need to self-assure, by showing down someone else.
All these are indicative of opportunism and not humility….
Humility keeps a person grounded all the times…. Opportunism on the other hand, is where your behaviors change to fit that occasion!
Humility is rooted in inner strength, confidence and stability…. Humble people command respect over the long haul and they become true leaders….
Get back to your roots…. Be humble… be consistent… The alternative makes you less than who you are meant to be!
