Say “No” with care
Extremities are almost never good. And the use of “No” is no exception.
If you have trouble saying “No”, not only are you committing to more than you can deliver, you could be singing yourself, those associated with you as well as those you are not saying “no” to a lot of clean-up… and who knows what the consequences could be!
By the same token, saying “No” even when it is doable or legitimate is a sign of unwillingness to do what you can do or are expected to do. People are too smart not to be able to see through your ‘no’, and they are busy! It’s just a question of time before they walk around or away from you to get what they need.
Saying ‘no’ too many times is also an indication of corruption… “Why is he saying ‘no’ here?”….
Use this word with caution. A simple way to determine when in two minds is:
- Am I allowed to do this?
- Can this be done?
If the answer to both is “Yes”, don’t say “No”… Else, it is a “No”!
