Rightsize the application of software tools
I needed to make a 3 mm hole in my wall to hang a large picture. I called a popular handyman who loves using the newest tools in the market.
Well! He recommended that I purchase this brand new 10 Lb sledge hammer that is the hottest tool in the market. It can make a big dent in my strong wall in minutes and everyone is using it!
To then get to my 3 mm hole requirement, he wanted me to get him white cement to cement the unwanted dent, and a 3 mm nail to leave that hole I wanted as the white cement dries off. Needless to say, the bill was as fancy as the plan.
I then called another handyman who came in with a drilling machine and drilled a 3 mm hole in my wall and before I knew it, left my home. It cost me a whopping “thank you”!
Today’s software engineers are much like the first handyman. And the popularity of these shiny new SDKs, IDEs, technologies, tools and methodologies is akin to that huge sledge hammer.
