Responsibility
Taking my article from yesterday on Responsibility and Gratitude further, responsibility can be defined as taking complete charge of ones place in the setup that one is placed. It is owning up to every deed, word and thought in a manner where they do not have to be justified. It is doing what is right for the whole every time, as opposed to taking care of oneself or ones own group or sect. Responsibility is living by the same code when alone and ‘no one is watching’.
In that context, any person that has a feeling of entitlement, looks for special provisions to be made for him, has a sectarian attitude, does not carry his load and depends on others to bear his share of burden, or tries to find reasons in others for his failures, is not a responsible person. Such a person slows those around him, slows down society and is an instrument of pulling human existence to a lower state of being.
In responsibility, there is no room for laziness, indiscipline, tantrums, fighting for ones rights, blaming or demanding.
Integrity, honesty, hard-work, sincerity, dedication, intelligence, productivity, positive attitude, good health, spiritual wellbeing and happiness are off-shoots of responsibility.
A responsible person holds himself to a higher standard. A responsible person stands on his own. He is a source of strength for he bring out his inner strength. He is a source of inspiration for he lives an exemplary life. He helps improve the lives of those about him and thereby propels societal growth, for he pushes himself to the limits. A responsible person always thinks of the whole!
A society that identifies responsible people and has them leading it is bound for success. Commit the mistake of giving equal ‘rights’ to people that do not understand responsibility as those who are responsible, and you are rotting the society; worse, place people who do not understand responsibility in positions of authority, and the society is doomed to failure.
