Pleasure and happiness
The pursuit for one destroys you while the other liberates you!
It’s happiness that we pursue! Ancient Indian Wisdom calls us “children of Immortal Bliss”. It is ignorance that keeps us from the realization!
Yet, as is our true nature, it is after ‘happiness’ we chase! But ignorance on and often deludes us into confusing pleasure for happiness.
Doing drugs gives instance pleasure. It lasts but a moment, but the feeling is so beautifully intense for that short lived moment, that we want more of it… we do more drugs and eventually, it ceases the pleasure completely, while in the process, we lose ourselves to drugs… pleasure and happiness are long gone!
Pleasure and Happiness are diametrically opposite feelings, as similar as they may seem. They are the two arms of an axis, with Happiness on the positive arm and Pleasure on the negative.
Happiness graduates to joy and bliss… it is everlasting, eternal, pure, constructive…
Pleasure regresses to craze and frenzy… it causes you to become obsessed, lose yourself… become frustrated, addicted and leaves you completely destroyed!
A person on the path to happiness becomes a source of inspiration to everyone around him while the one pursuing pleasure could range anywhere between a social irritant and a disgusting outcast!
Recognize the feeling early. It’s easy!
When the feeling psyches you up… when it arouses you, tempts your passions, distracts you, starts leaving you exhausted, you are traversing the pleasure pathway…
When you are on the path of happiness, you gain peace… inner calm!
It calls for maturity and some level of perceived self-denial to get into the path of happiness… It’s a small price to pay for that eternal state of joy.. of bliss! Why not pay it now?
