The four types of skills…
Most people stop at the mention of types 1 and may be 2. Types 3 and 4 below are really more important and are often completely ignored. Understand this to stand a chance to be good at what you do… Else find yourself ineffective…
1. HARD SKILLS: These are the skills that you need to do your primary job… A carpenter must know carpentry, a dentist must know dentistry, and so on…
2. SOFT SKILLS: These are the interpersonal skills, the communication skills, your discipline, attitude, etc that make you a professional that can work with the rest of the team in an organizational setup or with clients and vendors. Often times this is more important than the hard skills
3. MANAGERIAL SKILLS: How structured and organized are you? Can you manage yourself effectively and then manage the tasks given to you. You would be amazed at how scarce a skill this is in the professional world today; as important as it is!
4. AWARENESS: Do you know your audience? Do you understand the specific user base that will feel the impact of what you are doing… Is your work output relevant in the real world and will it make the impact that it is set to make? I have found this seriously lacking in most people. This is probably the single most important and the hardest skill to gain…
Apply yourself on all these fronts and you will find yourself excelling at anything you do…. 👍
