EXECUTION…
“The Preface or the Forward”
Today I start a series on the one word/subject that determines the (level of) success or failure of anything that we undertake…
I have been writing on disparate topics over the past month and felt that it may be a good idea to cover one topic at a time at some level of detail for the benefit of those of you that have been following my writings…
Dozens of books have been written on this subject… many of them have become best sellers and after decades still remain the favorite books on the shelves of several successful professionals!
To name a few that I have read and benefited from that either directly or indirectly discuss this extremely important topic:
– Execution: The discipline of getting things done
– The Four Disciplines of Execution
– Lean Execution: The basic implementation guide for maximizing process performance
– Effective Execution Strategy: Improving performance with business intelligence
– The 7 Good Habits of Highly Effective People
– The Fifth Discipline: The art and practice of the learning organization
And there are many other very good books, videos on You Tube, White Papers, Ted Talks, Pod Casts, etc… all discussing Execution.
The question that I had to ask myself in this backdrop was, “Why write about something that has already been covered by so many veterans and experts in such great detail?”
Three answers:
1. This is an ocean of a subject and no matter how much you write, you can still write more… express the same thing differently and I want to take a stab at it in my own capacity…
2. I might be able to bring in a perspective that is easier to relate to for some of my readers. Some of the books that I have read are rich in case studies that do not apply to several readers. So while the general principles may be understood, “Mapping” them to their specific situation may become a challenge (read my article on Mapping)
3. As always, I will keep my articles short so I can save you the trouble of having to read through several 300 page books… This should help you gather the fundamentals of execution awareness and knowledge that I have been able to gain over several months worth reading and my over 17 years of experience, by spending no more than 2 minutes a day for the next week to ten days!
My personal challenge will be to condense all of that knowledge into such concise (2 minute) reading each day spanning no more than ten days!
So stay tuned for my first Chapter on Execution due tomorrow😊…
