Weight loss and fitness… A case study…
Weight loss and fitness… A case study of how I lost about 50 pounds over 18 months and have been maintaining it over the past 3 years!
About three and a half years back, I weighed a little over 90 kilos (over 200 pounds). Life was moving on just fine until one day, someone barely 6-7 years younger to me addressed me as “uncle” (it is common in India to address an older man as uncle and an older lady as aunty)…. And I realized that I was actually fat!!!
The obvious next step… hit the gym!!! I started working out and soon felt it was in my right to eat anything I wanted to… after all, my body should know… I am working out!!
Contrary to my hopes, I started bloating while feeling tired all the time… I was definitely doing something wrong!
It was then that I met my trainer… And he told me something that I will never ever forget!
Growth comes only when you do things just a little beyond your limit… And… It is hard to out train a poor diet…
So I made incremental changes to my diet…. I stopped those sugars and the rice and the bad carbs! And I started working out more… If I could run at 10 kilometers per hour, I set the speed to 11… and then 12… If I could run comfortably for 30 mins… I started running for 45… then 60….
I started doing multiple sets of combination routines… more reps… heavier weights… and then those drop sets…
Finally, in about 3 months, the weight started to come down… And I started losing inches off my waist…
That excited me and I started doing more…. And the weight just started to fall off me…and the more the weight started to fall off me… the more motivated I was at the gym…
I couldn’t wait till it was 5 am every morning so I could go to the gym… I was motivated to do everything… a little bit of cardio… weights… cross fits… I started disliking eating unhealthy foods; it was not about taste anymore…
It was about finding the right algorithm for my body so I could feel on top all day long….
Over the past two years, I have not needed a trainer as much! I know what to eat and what not to… And I have some of my best time at the gym!
Today, at 150 pounds, I can run 20 kilometers in 2 hours effortlessly! And my otherwise 18 hour long stressful days after just about 4 hours of sleep seem like a breeze!
A little bit of success is necessary to get motivated… Work hard for that first bit of success…. And it will start following you…
