The Thought Loop
One big difference between those that always get things done and the ones that struggle with successfully completing their tasks and projects is not necessarily capability or commitment or discipline or knowledge…. It is how thought was applied and how it was sustained through out the process!
How many times have you heard people say… “There was some reason we decided on that, I am not able to recollect what we were thinking back then”!
Many people have a sound thought process… You can most definitely think of all the variables that participate in the development of your project… you can plan well and you can may be execute well!
The problem often times is a very inadvertent shift from the originating thought that was the driver behind a certain choice or decision… It generally happens by virtue of people focusing on the immediate task on hand while forgetting the psyche behind the creating of that task or set of tasks!
Have a written mechanism of keeping your formative, foundational thoughts and constantly refer back to that write-up through out the execution cycle! This will help you keep that thought alive as you work on those project tasks….
You might consider drafting your thoughts as a bulleted list or a simple statement and sticking it up on your work wall, for you to be able to read all the time! This will help you involuntarily reflect back to your original thoughts as you undertake each task.
Many times it is the trivial details that are missed that define the gap between what is excellently done and what might be mediocre!
Think about what you have to do before you start… think about what you are doing as you work on things… and think about what you have done after completing your work!
It’s the closure of your thought loop that will determine how effectively your delivery matches up with your original intended outcome!
