The noblest profession
Teaching! There is not one of us that could have gotten to where we are, but for the efforts of those countless teachers that we have been blessed with, through our life’s path; to them I humbly salute and express my gratitude.
And as I say that, I am sure, your thoughts reach out to those teachers that you hold dear to your heart… those, in whose thought your head bows down in reverence, or your spirit soars in gratitude. And this, the Vedas say, is one of the simplest ways, to setting yourself off, on the journey of spiritual awakening.
Without a teacher, there would be no learning… there would be no progress… no world as we enjoy it!
Had not the first person that figured out how to make fire taught the trick to the one next to him, and that next guy to the next, and so on… we would all be still figuring out how to make fire.
There would be no language to communicate, no wheel, no food, nothing!!!
There is a teacher in everybody… and everyone is a student. It is just in the pronounced realization that this is how the entire universe has been designed, that a feeling of spiritual ecstasy can most easily be experienced.
And amidst this eternal, passive teaching and learning, are those, who have dedicated their lives to the cause of teaching… that the rest of us may learn and grow and move the world forward!
Ancient India, revered the teacher “Guru” as “God” Himself and realized that it is only through a teacher that has Himself realized the ‘Ultimate Path’ to Self-realization that one may hope to attain ‘Moksa’ or ‘Liberation’ or ‘Redemption’.
While not all teaching necessarily directly leads to redemption and while there may be a stray incident of a teacher not standing up to that high ideal, disrespecting teachers and not holding those that impart the single most valuable, non-perishable asset one can ever gain, i.e., “Knowledge”, is very inappropriate and speaks lowly if the one resorting to such behavior.
It would be a sin to brand the torch bearers of this Great profession as just anyone else that does something for a living!
The 5th of September is celebrated as the “Teacher’s Day”, after the great “Sarvepalli Radha Krishnan”. At least on this one day, let us take the time to express our gratitude to all those that have been instrumental in making us who we are.
On this great day, I thank all my teachers starting with my parents, for contributing to my life. Thank you!
