Like the back of your hand?
Would you recognize a picture of the back of your hand? I can’t say about you, but I sure can’t!
The words that are used may not always accurately convey the sense you mean to; what will most definitely reach your audience however is, their take on what you said.
Your reputation precedes you… and that becomes the only lens that people will see you through. Your words then reach their ears in the language that their impression of you translates them in!
The statement, “I know it like the back of my hand”, means differently to different sets of people…. To the champions of the brand you, it’s a statement ascertaining your confidence and knowledge; to your skeptics, it is another avenue for your ridicule; to those that don’t know you, it reveals your boastful conduct and to those that have nothing to do with you, it is an empty statement causing amusement….
The one thing that is important here disregarding your audience is, do you truly know it! If you do, let your actions prove it… and if you are using some big sounding exaggerated statements to bolster your ego or to make yourself feel good, it’s probably time to grow up.
What is it? That level of personal insight is the only thing worth knowing ‘like the back of your hand’!
