Essentialism
I have been reading the book “Essentialism” by Eric McKeown; clearly one of the most compelling reads!
Here is what appealed the most to me:
1. Every decision is either a ‘definite yes’ or a ‘no’.
2. Do not make emotional decisions; assign metrics to the vital variables that go into your decision making. If it totals to anything below a 9 on a scale from 0 to 10, it is a ‘no’.
3. If it is a 9 and not a 10, ask yourself if it could become anything less than 9 over time. If so, why go that route?
4. Most importantly, learn to say ‘no’. Dealing with the resultant issues in the near term is far easier than the burden of having to deal with them over a long period of time.
I may not have quoted all of what the book covers. The ones I mentioned are what I carry home!
It’s a great book and a must read for most. If you struggle with saying ‘no’, do read it!
