Entrepreneur… President… Employee… Organization…
It is difficult to be an ‘Employee’… you have to satisfy your boss who more than likely is insensitive and does not completely recognize your contribution… you have shifting priorities… you are not given the team that you really want or are given resources that you really don’t care to have… there are politics that you have to deal with… company’s leadership is disconnected; they don’t see what is really needed for the day-to-day operations… you really think that the company should be working in the direction you know (/think) will make it successful, but your opinions are ignored or are never heard… you have to work very hard… those long nights and weekends…. And you are not given that bonus or that raise because they just don’t see it!!!
It must be easy to be the President! He just has to move around meeting people… He can afford not to show up to work on time and can leave without seeking permission! Plus he is the one that gets the credit for those successes that are are a result of your hard work and can blame you for any failure… He is always smiling ‘cos he does not have any of the problems that you have! Oh well! Neither can it be ignored that he has been created with special abilities… higher emotional stability, more capacity, ability to deal with multiple projects both in terms of breadth and depth, has the know-how of all aspects of everything… a built-in realtime information system that magically gets him all the data coupled with a photographic memory of every event that occurred and every word that was uttered by anybody in the organization past, present or future in or away from his presence…
And the life of the Entrepreneur has got to be just a dream come true! He is after-all living his dream! He sets the agenda and the direction and the budget and the expectation!!! And (in spite of being unaware all the time about what actually has to happen for day-to-day operations) he still has somehow been able to establish this company….
His sleepless nights don’t count as it is his organization… his boundless wealth coupled with his ability to produce money at will are but assumed… investors trust him for God knows what reason… And this guy especially has an infinite intellectual capacity and (has no emotions of his own although he) is expected to have utmost sensitivity for you which he obviously does not… And you know that all the lapses in processes and procedures in this little company that he has started should never be there and probably would never have been there had you done it all… it’s his great fortune that you stood by him (albeit some resentment for him through your stand)… Lucky guy!!!
It is so hard to be an employee!!!
Now let me tell you this Mr. Employee…. those other two guys depend on you… And it is truly you that can make a difference… In your own level of happiness and success, as well as in determining how successful or otherwise those other two guys become, if only you take a few minutes to sincerely and honestly understand the mission and the strategy… the goal and your role… and stand together shoulder to shoulder, understanding why hey do what they do and what it takes to be them…
It is you that they look to, to achieve what the organization will get its success from…. for everyone’s collective benefit!!!
It is you that really needs to understand what it takes to be them…. to live the lives they lead everyday… wearing that smile, so you stay encouraged through your hardships… so you are successful, for they know that their success is only through your success….
And you will make that difference only when you see the organization through the lens that they wear… understand the direction set and work in that direction…
You already do so much… endure so much… Can you add this one additional item to your generous list of contributions???
