Don’t be afraid to unplug….
Back in India, about 25 years back, you had to have prescheduled time slots for people to call each other across cities…. And it was expensive! We hoped that technology would evolve and come around to where we could stay better connected!
And look what’s happening today!!!
You could be driving down the Smokies in Tennessee while speaking with your friend enjoying his vacation on a beach in Bangkok and conference in a travel agent based in Mumbai…. all at no charge!
Technology has come a long way for sure….
The increasing penetration of wearables and IoT based devices, AR, VR, TV anywhere… It’s only going to get more and more connected!
But when you think back into where you are going with all of this as an individual, you realize…. You sleep with your phone, you wake up with it… you wake up several times a night just to check to see who is saying what… who’s doing what…. You want everyone to know what you are up to…. Now it’s not just a source of staying informed… It has become the single largest obsession that most of us suffer from!
You are not just in touch… not just informed… not just connected…. You are plugged in!
You hardly even remember how to relax yourself… you your sleep has turned intermittent, thanks to the compulsive need to see and tell what’s going on….
We all know that end of the day, life’s different from what we are making it out to be.
My brother asked me a few months back: ” When was the last time you actually took time to listen to yourself breathe”! It was not until then that I even took a moment to think of what I was missing out on!
It is OK to not be as connected… OK, not to stay as informed! Life was for sure easier in many ways 25 years back….
For but a few minutes, try to disconnect from everyone else and from everything else…. Put that phone aside for 15 minutes each day to give time to yourself!
Don’t be afraid to unplug….
The ultimate “Connection”, is to be made with the guy within…. Take that deep breath and listen to it move in your lungs…. It is beautiful!
