Dealing with BIG kids…
The world is filled with them…. ‘Big Kids’….
Ironically, most like to think of themselves as the adults!
Adulthood cannot to be contained to acting stern. It has to include self-assessment on the kid-hood calipers!
The litmus tests are many and then there are calipers to measure the lack of growth on a regressive metric!
For instance:
1. There are those that can never be wrong. If something has gone bad, it is someone else’s fault
2. They need all the attention… From the time they walk in to the time they walk out, you better be in absolute awe of their existence
3. Anything that has gone well is a direct result of their involvement
4. If you are trying to explain something, they already know it… They know it all!
5. They count the favors they have done to you while the ones you did, was your responsibility… your job!
A kid can be taught… But a ‘big kid’ already knows that he is the adult!
The challenge is that there are too many kids that you have to deal with… and it can get challenging when you have to deal with a bunch of them that are collectively convinced that they are not!
How do you deal with this?
Most times, it is best not to teach or convince anyone differently from what they believe… And if it impacts you beyond your ability to deal with it, simply walk away! You have better things to do with your time….
The one question you do want to answer for yourself before walking away is…. Do any of the qualities above apply to me???
