Create an environment where honesty is rewarded…
How many times have you found anyone raise his hand and agree that he was wrong or that he did not live up to a certain standard…
And even when you want to do it, you would probably debate and decide against doing it for the fear of being demonized!
Unfortunately, when a person does own up to a certain folly, everyone around him immediately agrees that he was wrong indeed as opposed to appreciating the sincerity with which he took responsibility for his actions….
Most people are extremely forgiving of their own shortcomings but have no tolerance to others’ mistakes.
A good leader, in a work, home or a social setting, is one who is able to create an environment which lets people be themselves… where honesty is rewarded… where people can be objective and result oriented and are able to discuss their shortcomings or mistakes as openly and naturally as they would their strengths and achievements…
And to be able to create such an environment, practice honesty…. If you are a proactive person, you will pick that hand up ahead of being asked… ahead of being caught! You will reward the person who dares to be honest and give strength to him, who does not have it….
Set the example first! Remember… Good habits are also contagious!!!
