A better fit for the other job
The current job deals with the abstract; it needs a broader and deeper understanding; a long term vision with the ability to balance near term deliverables. You cannot afford to be myopic. It can get frustrating as there is little direction, only a dream, which needs to be broken down into tangible milestones and tasks.
The other job lets you work on specifics; the requirements are spelt out; there is a definite deliverable at the end of a definite time span. It can get stressful as it is not always easy to meet a tight deadline, plus, the requirements can change often. The end use is hard to satisfy.
Both are important; it’s just that the temperament, the method of applying yourself and the expectations are different.
You may excel at one and your peer, who is equally qualified, committed and smart may find himself a fish out of water in it. Conversely, he may excel at the other.
He may not be a fit for this job, but he can take the other!
