Bank on empirical evidence….
Uncertainty is difficult to deal with, and in times of uncertainty, most people look to coaches, seniors, discussion groups, peers and the like for direction… for cues about how to proceed!
As much as conventional wisdom suggests resorting to norms and to the advise of pundits and experts, nothing can really shortchange the fact that it is ultimately up to you to gain clarity… to navigate through the situation….
The onus is on you to decide!
Focus therefore on empirical data and the evidence that it places in front of you, that you can then use to get past your situation. The experts and the pundits, the peers and the groups that you are tempted to resort to, are also relaying their consolidated versions of the empirical data that they have had an opportunity to gain through their experiences…. The most well-intentioned advise is still going to fall short of what you need to do in your specific case for the experiences that they base their analyses or conclusions on, are theirs…. No one can map that data as completely and accurately to your experiences and your specific problems like you can!
You are ultimately responsible….
Invest time in gathering empirical data. Extreme situations call for extreme measures…. The same level of intelligence, that got you into the situation you are in… cannot get you out of it!
Focus on gathering the data…. Consult others! Benefit from their experiences and advise…. But let that only be another data point for you to be able to decide….
It’s ultimately you that can get yourself out of the situation!
